Addressing Cultural Bias in Our Mental Health Work
Lisa Ranallo is a School Counseling Consultant at the Education Service Center, Region 20, where she supports counselors and social workers in 95 districts and charters. She has a BA in English from Texas A&M University, and a MA in Counseling from the University of Texas at San Antonio. She has 24 years of experience in public education— teaching students in grades 5-8 before working as an elementary school counselor for two years and a high school counselor for 15½ years. She offers training on many topics, including Youth Mental Health First Aid, AS+K? About Suicide to Save a Life, Psychological First Aid for Schools, counseling at-risk and highly mobile students, addressing cultural bias in school counseling, building comprehensive school counseling programs, graduation requirements, and post-secondary readiness.
