Family Services: What is this Early Childhood Mental Health?

Fred B. Cardenas, LMSW, has a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Social Work from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, and over 35 years of experience working in nonprofit organizations, primarily focused on providing child and family mental health services and advocacy in educational and community settings—often addressing trauma.  He currently manages the Early Childhood Well-Being program, a child mental health program for Family Service in San Antonio.  Fred also participates in community collaborations and advocacy work to identify and promote education and child mental health programs and policies to reduce barriers and increase access to quality education and mental health services for underserved communities.   He serves on the board of directors for Voices for Children and teaches graduate classes as adjunct faculty at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Fred has additional training in various evidence-based practices focused on child and family mental health.
