Claudio Cepeda, M.D. is a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at Clarity Child Guidance Center. He offers inpatient and outpatient psychiatric services to children and adolescents. Dr. Cepeda also serves as a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at UT Health San Antonio™
Prior to joining Clarity Child Guidance Center, Dr. Cepeda served as the Medical Director of the Charter Rio Grande Psychiatric Hospital in Laredo, Texas. Dr. Cepeda also worked in private practice while living in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Additionally, he worked in general medical practice in Colombia, his native country.
Dr. Cepeda has authored several books and publications, including the Concise Guide to the Psychiatric Interview of Children and Adolescents, which has been translated to Japanese and Spanish due to its popularity. He was ranked #1 Student at the University of Colombia National School of Medicine, and he received the top score on the Educational Council of Foreign Medical Graduates.
Dr. Cepeda received his Doctor of Medicine degree, from the Facultad de Medicina Universidad Nacional in Bogotá, Colombia. He also completed several postgraduate programs, including Diplomat in Psychoanalysis from the Detroit Psychoanalytic Institute, and Fellow in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry from the University of Michigan Children’s Psychiatric Hospital.
The Department of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry from UT Health San Antonio™ recognized Dr. Cepeda with the “Excellence of the Year” award in 2000 and the “Excellence of Teaching” award in 1995, 1996 and 2000. He received the “Outstanding CAP“ (Child and Adolescent Program) award in 1996. His peers have selected Dr. Cepeda for inclusion in “The Best Doctors of America” four times throughout his career. He has also served as Manager of the Christine Hays Memorial Awards Fund from 1991-1992.
Dr. Cepeda is a member of the American Psychiatric Association, the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry (fellow), the American Academy of Psychoanalysis (fellow), the Texas Society for Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, and the San Antonio Group for Psychoanalytic Studies.
Dr. Cepeda is married and has 3 children. He enjoys working with complex cases. He says, “I take pride in having the ability to empathize with the patient and the family, and I admire kids' resourcefulness to cope with conflict and the world around them.”
