Types of treatment

There are a range of treatment options for children or adolescents with mental illness. Depending upon your child’s diagnosis, your mental health professional will make a recommendation for treatment that could incorporate psychotherapy or psychosocial therapies, also known as “talk therapies” or “behavioral therapies.” Treatment may also include psychotropic medications that assist with managing mood and behavior. At Clarity, we offer a diverse range of children's treatment services in San Antonio

An important first step toward treatment is becoming educated on children’s mental health. A mental health professional will always be the best source of information when it comes to diagnosing or treating your child. However, there are also local resources available to assist families in learning more specific topics within children’s mental health.

The American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry produced Facts for Families, a series of fact sheets that provide concise and up-to-date information on issues that affect children, adolescents, and their families. You will find below their fact sheets concerning treatment. For further information, please refer to the AACAP website
