NEW CAMPAIGN URGES PARENTS TO GET KIDS MENTAL HEALTH TREATMENT
November 7, 2011
SAN ANTONIO – Clarity Child Guidance Center (Clarity CGC) has launched a new outreach campaign to encourage parents to ask their primary care physician, school counselor or mental health professional about their child’s mental health. The theme of the campaign is nothing is worse than doing nothing. The campaign website www.help4mykid.org features a five-minute video that explains how parents can get mental health services for their child, public services announcements, and links to additional resources.
A recent national survey found that 1 in 4 parents are concerned about their child’s mental health. However, 43% of those parents wait more than one year to get their child professional help.
“Parents often have a hard time determining if their child’s troubling behavior is typical of childhood or if it’s a symptom of something more serious,” says Fred Hines, Clarity CGC president and CEO. “We hope that this outreach campaign will help point them in the right direction and encourage early intervention.”
Clarity CGC has created public service announcements in English and Spanish to promote the campaign throughout the Bexar County area. People are asked to help increase awareness by sharing the www.help4mykid.org link with their friends and families.
Clarity Child Guidance Center is a nonprofit mental health treatment center providing programs designed specifically for kids ages 3-17. Our goal is to provide families with greater access to children’s mental health care regardless of their ability to pay. Visit www.claritycgc.org to learn more.
